Alcohol Detox Centres – the Benefits of in-Patient Alcohol Treatment

For people who have become dependent on alcohol it is often a painful experience to take that first step towards getting well. Many need to admit they have a problem to themselves, as well as others, before seeking professional help.

Once the person concerned has decided to seek help, attending regular out-patient clinic sessions in conjunction with seeking medical advice from their doctor can be the right route to take. However in more serious cases of alcohol addiction, in-patient intervention may be needed.

At a residential alcohol treatment centre the client is given treatments in order to safely detox from alcohol and the procedures are managed around the clock by a qualified medical team. Unmanaged withdrawal from alcohol carries with it the risk of fatal side effects. These risks are minimised or avoided by a medicated withdrawal or stabilisation in a supportive environment such as a detox centre.

An alcohol treatment or detox centre is often a necessity when the person concerned needs to take themselves out of their usual environment – which can be a trigger for their drinking – and seek in-patient treatment in order to really get well. Staying in surroundings dedicated to such treatments helps the person to focus solely on their detox and recovery program.

Other benefits associated with alcohol treatment centres include; having the support of trained staff around you, being in a safe environment, sharing companionship with others and benefiting from a fully rounded treatment experience that includes alternative therapies as well as traditional detox methods.

Detox centres can be more suitable for those with more serious alcohol dependency issues who have been unsuccessful at managing their recovery in the past. However staff at detox centres often have experience of administering alcohol detoxification for all levels of alcohol addiction, whether it be low-risk drinkers or those with chronic alcohol dependency issues.

During alcohol withdrawal and substitution, alcohol treatment centres often use a range of complementary, therapeutic and holistic tools to encourage the body’s ability to eliminate alcohol toxins and re-stabilise. These methods can also help to alleviate any discomfort experienced during detox. Alternative therapies are a great way to support someone through the vulnerable period of detoxification, as they promote psychological well-being and relaxation when the body and mind are in the process of re-adjusting during alcohol recovery.

Alcohol detox is the first step of recovering from alcohol addiction. Detox centres also offer rehabilitation programs following a detox, allowing the client to learn strategies for coping with and embracing their new alcohol free life. Support is commonly offered for some time after a client has finished their program, in order to make sure that they do not relapse back into old ways.

With a focused detox programme at an alcohol treatment centre, clients can often recover from their addiction at a fairly rapid rate. Without distractions from the outside environment or pressures from family or friends, an intensive course of treatment at a detox centre can be the ideal way to begin to manage one’s own recovery – with the crucial help and support of qualified practitioners.
