Question by Maribel: Help im on methadone and pregnant…what do i do and what’s going to happen?
Okay I’ve been on methadone for about two and a half Weeks now i just found out I’m pregnant and don’t know what to do. I was originally in the 21 day detox, started at 40 mg and am currently on 30. the thing is that my doc wants to up my dose back to 40 mg and put me on maintenance. Help I’m very scared! First of all i don’t want my baby to go through the awful withdrawals, and secondly i don’t want to be addicted to methadone either by the time my baby is born.(I’m in California btw) someone please help me any advice is welcome i just want to make the right choice for my baby…

gradually reduce your methadone while you improve your diet by eating less acid ie pain producing food and eat more alkaline pain relieving food

I hope this helps you with your problem 🙂

I will probably be the only one on here who will not judge you..

I felt the same way that you did. My baby was addicted to it and was in the hospital for 17 days. I drove for an hour and half every single day and stayed there for hours. It was so heartbreaking. He cried most of the day, he couldn’t eat good or suck anything good, he through his arms up in the air. It is very hard, but I don’t want to depress you because that doesn’t happen to everyone. You have to understand that I was on 60 milligrams while I was pregnant and went a week past due. The last three weeks is when I think it matters. I withdrawed from methadone the last three weeks while I was pregnant very bad. I guess my baby was getting it all. :/ I know people are going to look down on me for writing this and I still look down on myself, but you are not abusing drugs. Since it is prescribed and if your baby is addicted, CPS may not come to your house. I live on the east coast(don’t want to say my state) and CPS did not come out here. I was really worried. My son now two years old and very healthy and too smart. I read your other question and someone says it has a high risk of retardation. That is NOT true. Don’t let my story scare you because I have another story for you.

Someone close to me was on 75 milligrams throughout her whole pregnancy and and she had her baby at 32 weeks(she had cervical cancer twice and they had to scrape her cervix out and they had to put something in her for her to hold her baby in and that was the longest she could hold her(girls are stronger than boys, also) and her baby wasn’t addicted. That is why I think the last month matters most.

Here is what I would do if I was you, If YOU don’t think you can stay clean from pills, I would of course stay on the methadone. If you think you can, I say GO FOR IT! I think it would be awesome, for you and your baby. 🙂 Good luck and I wish the best for ya, hun! :))
