Jeff from Minneapolis, Minnesota is a recent graduate of the Palm Partners Recovery Program in Delray Beach. He volunteered to share his story “Hi, everybody. My name is Jeff. I was born in Miami, Florida. I spent my formative years up in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Growing up, I had a pretty good life. I wanted for nothing. Only child. I found drugs on my own, through friends, through bands. The lifestyle kind of caught up with me. I’m typically what you would call a functioning addict. My bills were always paid. I had everything that I wanted, but I was still using. I spent a lot of my time putting extra cent that I had into drugs, so beyond being selfish and getting all my material possessions in the world, I would then go out and use the rest of my money that we could have used for food, could have used to go out to the movies, could have used to do anything, and I was putting them to feed my habit. Things got pretty bad for me within the past six months and that’s essentially was drove me here to Palm Partners. I seeked help on my own. When I asked my wife for money to go out and use, and she asked me, “Are you going to pay me back?,” I said “Honestly, honey, no. Probably not.” And she said, “Alright, well, for your honesty, you win a prize.” And the prize was me getting her debt card to go out and use. When she went inside to grab her card for …
